La Momia is a 1999 American action-adventure horror film directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Kevin J. O'Connor, and Arnold Vosloo. It is a loose remake of the 1932 film of the same name and the first installment in the Mummy franchise.
The film tells the story of adventurer Rick O'Connell, who teams up with librarian Evelyn Carnahan and her brother Jonathan to seek out the lost city of Hamunaptra, where they unwittingly awaken an ancient Egyptian mummy named Imhotep, who seeks to resurrect his lover Anck-su-Namun.
La Momia received generally positive reviews and was a box-office success, grossing over $416 million worldwide. It was followed by two sequels, The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), as well as spin-offs and reboots.
